Kitchen and bath remodeling, floor to cabinet, from one company

Cabinet painting, countertops, tile showers and new floors, with demolition and cleanup handled by one company instead of four.

Cabinets, countertops and demolition

A kitchen remodel starts with what comes out. Demolition is on the list of what Best Budget Flooring does, alongside cabinets, countertops and the floor underneath them. Taking the old room apart and putting the new one back together under one roof means nobody is waiting on a second company to finish their half.

The kitchen in our job photo shows where a budget goes furthest: sage-green painted raised-panel cabinets, granite counters, a tumbled-stone backsplash set on the diagonal and a light vinyl plank floor. Painted cabinets are the quiet saving when the boxes are still solid, because the room changes color and character without paying for new cabinetry.

Countertops and backsplash decide how the wall behind the work surface looks and wipes down. We lay the floor and the backsplash in the same job, so the line where counter meets tile and tile meets floor gets planned once.

Tile showers and bathroom floors

The walk-in shower in our photos is a good picture of how tile earns its place in a wet room: grey wood-look plank tile on the walls, a mosaic band running through it, a pebble-mosaic pan underfoot and dark wood-look tile across the bathroom floor.

Bath tile has two jobs besides looking good. It has to shed water, and it has to grip when feet are wet. Our flooring guide says to choose slip-resistant tile, and that advice matters most in a shower pan and at the bathroom door. Porcelain is denser and a little more water resistant than ceramic, which is why it is a common pick for wet floors.

One company for the floor and the room

Most remodel headaches are handoffs: the person who tears out the cabinet is not the person who lays the floor, and the floor is not ready when the paint is. Floor, tile, cabinets, countertop and demolition all sit on this company's service sheet, so the schedule is one schedule.

A few things are worth knowing before the day. The installation agreement says the crew will remove a toilet for a new floor but will not reinstall it, and that the installers clean up and remove all trash when they finish. Book the plumber for the toilet and the rest takes care of itself.
