Sheet rock, texture and paint, finished alongside the floor

Sheet rock, texture, paint, siding and trim work, often done with a new floor so the room is finished all at once.

Sheet rock, texture and paint

A floor looks only as good as the walls it meets. Sheet rock, texture and paint are on Best Budget Flooring's service list because the two trades overlap in almost every remodel: a wall gets opened for a repair, a floor goes in, and the room needs to look like one decision.

Texture is where a repair either disappears or shows. New sheet rock is smooth, and the wall beside it is not, so the patch has to be textured to match before paint goes on. Paint is the last coat that ties old wall and new wall into one surface.

Our laundry room photo shows the full range, from a gutted room with open studs to a finished one with floor, cabinets and a sink. That is the kind of job where doing the walls and the floor with one company keeps the order of work straight.

Siding and trim work

Siding and trim work are named on the company's service sheet alongside painting, sheet rock, kitchen and bath work and foundation repair. Trim is where a flooring job ends: baseboard and quarter round close the gap at the wall, and the room looks unfinished until they are in and painted.

One limit is worth planning for. The installation agreement says new moldings are not painted by the flooring crew, so treat paint on new quarter round as its own line when you walk through the estimate. Siding is outside work, and we look at it in person before talking about it.

Water damage repairs alongside a new floor

Water damage is the job where walls and floors fail together. A leak or an overflow soaks the flooring, the cabinet and the lower part of the wall at once, and fixing only the floor leaves a stained, swollen wall behind it.

One Google reviewer describes exactly that: a sink left running, vinyl plank flooring and a bathroom cabinet to replace, and some painting to finish. Doing all of it in one project meant one schedule and one cleanup. Their words are on the work order below.

Laundry room before and after: open studs and a rotten subfloor on one side, a finished room with vinyl plank floor, cabinets and sink on the other

From a soaked room to a finished one

“We had water damage from a sink being left on and had to replace our vinyl plank flooring and bathroom cabinet and also required some painting.”

  1. Out

Wet, rotten or damaged material comes out. In the laundry room job, that meant open studs and a rotten subfloor.

  2. In

New sheet rock goes up and the texture is matched to the walls beside it, so a repair does not read as a patch.

  3. On

Paint goes on the finished walls, with siding and trim work on the same list when the job calls for it.

  4. Down

The floor, cabinet and sink go back in, and the installers clean up and remove all trash.

The order matters: damaged material out first, walls and paint next, floor last. If you are looking at a damaged room right now, see how a vinyl plank floor goes back in, or read what the installation agreement covers before the crew arrives.
